Revel Strong Protein reviews are super hard to find since this brand is so fresh and new, BUT luckily for you, I have a really good grasp of this new protein brand and I am super pumped to share my thoughts on this new protein powder. I have tried both flavors and I think I can let you in on all the ins-and-outs of this Revel Strong Protein. In the review, I’ll basically break it down into three parts. The first part will go over both Revel Strong protein flavors and tell you which is the best Revel flavor. In the second part of the review we’ll talk about the formulation and whether the ingredients are high quality or not. Lastly, we’ll go over packaging as our third and final review element before closing up with a Revel Protein review summary. Let’s hop right in, the water is warm and I’m ready!

Revel Strong is the new bodybuilding.com house brand which includes a protein powder, a pr workout, and some other popular sports nutrition products all housed under the bodybuilding.com line. Bb.com, which used to be a shining house on the hill, seems to have lost it’s footing insofar as selling product is concerned. After all, what can you get on BB.com that you can’t get on Amazon these days? Right. Nothing. So I can see why Bodybuilding.com wanted to set out and create a brand that ‘stands for something’ – enter Revel Strong – the brand that.. hm.. supports women lifting? Or something? I’m not sure what their rallying cry is exactly but it’s clearly some modern ‘girlpower’ angle (sorta like that ‘Powher’ pre workout that I reviewed yesterday).. either way it rings somewhat inauthentic compared to real, founder-made brands like Alani Nu, Ghost, 1st Phorm, or Unico.. but in this review I’ll go over their flagship protein product regardless because branding aside, Bodybuilding.com SHOULD be able to put out a decent protein powder. One would think (she said ominously)…

What is the Best Flavor of Revel Protein?

So, Revel Strong protein comes in two flavors. Yes- you guessed right, it is chocolate and vanilla. I actually scooped up (pun intended) two tubs of this stuff to see if I could determine which is the better of the two flavors. I tried both Revel protein powder flavors mixed into 1.5 cups of standard Almond Breeze unflavored/unsweetened almond milk, along with some ice cubes. Here are my thoughts on each flavor:

Vanilla: The ‘Simply Vanilla’ Revel Strong protein powder mixed very quickly into a standard-thickness protein shake. The texture is actually fantastic. My first sip is very thick on my lips and clean and smooth through the swallow. The flavor is subtle, and NOT very peppy on the first sip. The product has okay flavor, but not a ton of depth. Sweetness is okay but needs more, for sure.

Chocolate: The chocolate Revel protein flavor is also excellent in texture, but could use some added ‘pop’ with the flavor itself. I did get some lighter hints of cocoa flavor, but the flavor seemed to fade on me and sort of die away to the side to be replaced by just very standard/expected protein flavor.

Overall these Revel Strong proteins do not taste bad at all. In fact, they have some of the best texture that I’ve had in a long time with a new protein powder brand. The depth of flavor, for me, is not on par with some of my top picks, but then again it’s sort of a ‘to-each-her-own’ situation. I like big, bold flavors and Revel Strong proteins don’t quite have it.

If I had to pick, the best flavor of Revel Strong protein is the Simply vanilla flavor. The lack of flavor is not as noticeable as a negative with the vanilla as it is in the chocolate so if I had to pick, I would go with the vanilla. Let’s keep moving and go over the Revel Protein Ingredients and macros now.

Revel Protein Review: Ingredients & Macros

The ingredients in this protein are fairly straight-forward, but you can tell that the Revel Strong team DID actually put some thought into this formulation. It is a blended protein, which I like, and it has some unique elements to it. The most notable ingredients that you would not expect in a protein are the choline bitartrate (used for cognitive benefits) and also some digestive enzymes, which prevent some protein bloating. I think that is a really creative inclusion from Revel. Here are the full ingredients in Revel Protein:

Revel Protein Ingredients

Whey Protein Concentrate

Micellar Casein

Cocoa

Choline Bitartrate

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)

Lactase

ProHydrolase

Gum Blend (cellulose gum, xanthan gum, carrageenan)

Salt

Sunflower Lecithin

Natural Flavor

Sucralose

Acesulfame Potassium

NOTES: So again, the cool parts of this formula are the enzymes and the choline, which I think is a unique ingredient for a protein powder. I also like that Revel uses a blend of protein powders including the whey and casein instead of JUST whey or casein. Pretty cool. The things I don’t like about this formula are the artificial sweeteners (sucralose and acesulfame potassium), and then I don’t think carrageenan gum is particularly good for you..

So. Yeah. Not a bad formula at all. Let’s take a peek at the macros now:

Revel Strong Macros:

Calories: 150

Total Fat: 3.5g

Saturated Fat: 1.5g

Cholesterol: 55mg

Total Carbohydrate: 5g

Dietary Fiber: 2g

Total Sugars: 2g

Protein 25g

NOTES: These macros are in line with other protein powders that I have tried. The fat might be a TOUCH higher than some of the others out there, but nothing too crazy.

Overall I will give Revel an 8/10 on the formula and ingredients. I think that Revel protein stands up to my standards of quality with formula. The artificial sweetener thing is a con for sue, but overall it’s a pretty straight-forward protein with the added benefits of the enzymes.

Revel Protein Packaging Grade:

Revel reminds me of a few other brands that I’ve seen over the years. I’m trying to think of them. Oh that’s it! It reminds me of ‘Ascent’ – the brand that I’ve actually started seeing in some Whole Foods. MyProtein also has some visual elements that Revel seems to have borrowed from. I think the design sort of works though. It has more of that ‘out-doorsy’ / ‘cross-fitty’ vibe. I think the product looks nice in black with the teal accents. A modern pattern provides some dynamic movement to the background without distracting the eye. The font choices (a-la E-Boost) are big, bold, and effective for the Revel brand. The Revel logo is sort of generic, but it works okay with the brand. I’ll give Revel protein an 8.5/10 on packaging.

Revel Strong Protein Review Summary

– Revel Strong is a new house-brand from bodybuilding.com – the once-dominant supplement e-tailer

– Revel Protein, the dairy-based recovery shake within the Revel line- features 150 calories and 25 grams of dairy-based protein per serving

– Revel Protein contains artificial sweeteners and is not vegan, but it does have some unique ingredients added like digestive enzymes and choline bitartrate

– Revel comes in two flavors- the classic chocolate and vanilla. The best flavor of Revel Strong protein is the simply vanilla flavor.

– Revel packaging is a medley of several design elements from popular brands like myProtein, E-Boost, and Ascent. It is easy on the eyes though

Revel Strong protein is not going to be successful, but the product itself is actually not bad. I really enjoyed the texture, and the formula itself is really quite good for recovery and muscle-gain. The flavors need some work, and the packaging is not bad…but I’m afraid no matter what, the writing is on the wall for Bodybuilding.com. If you do want to try Revel Strong protein, I would grab some fast. It, and it’s parent company, won’t be around forever.*
