Today we’re passing the 100th pre workout review mark with my Muscleology Sledgehammer review. In this review I’m going to tell you all about the black and orange pre workout with the strong name. Sledgehammer. It’s actually an amazing name. I bought it almost exclusively because of the name alone. The things that I like and don’t like about this pre workout will all be brought to light in this my one hundred and FIRST pre workout review. I almost feel like a little baby starting from scratch. I wonder if I’ll hit 200 in the next year? O my. Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves here. We need to focus on the pre workout at hand. And that’s the Muscleology Sledgehammer. I’m so excited to give you my thoughts in this pre workout review including flavor review, formula review, performance review, and of course packaging review. Ready to dive in? Me too. Let’s get it started.
Sledgehammer almost jumped off the shelf into my hand at Vitamin Shoppe the other day. I went in to grab some Combat Crunch bars, and one thing led to another…before I knew it I had a pre workout, a new flavor of D’s Natural’s Nut Butter, and even a Lenny and Larry’s cookie. Eek. I don’t make enough money to support these habits. I swear. But these things happen. And you should never be afraid to spend money on your fitness right? Right. The counter lady was so nice though- she told me they just got Muscleology Sledgehammer in stock and that she thought it was a good one. I was so eager to see if she was right!
I tried Muscleology Sledgehammer just moments later. Truth be told, I ripped open my Lenny and Larry’s cookie and devoured it before washing it down with a full scoop of Sledgehammer. This is known as the special Fit Life Allie Rocket Fuel pre workout protocol. It isn’t anywhere near healthy, but after taking in this concoction, you can actually workout for hours on end.
I have to start with a flavor analysis for Slegehammer. I was skeptical at first because it is a tropical flavor- not something I usually find to be the best tasting. But Muscleology managed to pull off a really really tasty version of tropical punch. The crazy part is that they use real sugar in combination with splenda to give this pre workout not only great taste, but great peace of mind because it’s all-naturally sweetened. The thing that I like most about the flavor is how much actual fruitiness is in here versus just plain sweetness. Sometimes pre workouts are sweet but have no real defined flavor. This one has both sweetness and flavor which is why I really enjoyed drinking it. So the taste of Sledgehammer pre workout is on point- how about the performance?
I did a pretty lackluster workout with Sledgehammer, not going to lie. I think I read somewhere else that two scoops is a better sweet spot for this particular pre workout so I am likely to up my dosage next time. AKA this afternoon. But my initial impression was that Sledgehammer is actually pretty mild in terms of energy. I expect that to change with the second scoop, but I did feel very composed and never had that wave of ‘LETS GO’ that washes over me with some of the other ones.
I think the pumps with this pre workout are ok, and I think that it’s best quality is the endurance. Now. Keep in mind I had that Lenny and Larry’s cookie sloshing around the fuel mix as well- and those puppies will keep you going for hours. But this pre workout certainly assisted me as my quest for workout domination continued long into the evening. I think that I actually made it from 6:30 PM to 9 PM. Now THAT’s a workout. I think that the Muscleology Sledgehammer pre workout absolutely was a key reason for that. I give this pre workout an 8.4 out of 10 on the performance with the side note that more testing may increase this score. Let’s look at the formulation.
Muscleology Sledgehammer Formula:
I think this pre workout is actually really well balanced. It does use creatine and beta -alanine and caffeine as the trifecta of pre workout ingredients. You will find those three in almost every product on the market to increase energy, endurance, and overall strength. I like this Muscleology pre workout because it takes some goodies from the strength department, some goodies from the focus department, and a little bit from the pump department to give the product a nice, overall enhanced impact for any weight training workout. My calf raises gave me great pump in the lower leg, and I could tell my mind was dialed in the entire time. Here are the full ingredients list in Muscleology Sledgehammer:
Caffeine
Tyrosine
Beta Alanine
Creatine
N-Methyl Tyramine
Arginine AKG
Alpha GPC
Theobromine
L-Carnitine Fumarate
Evodiamine
Synephrine HCL
Hordenine HCL
Choline Bitartrate
Agmatine Sulfate
The real highlight for me out of this pre workout mix are the Alpha GPC, evodiamine, and the big dosage of Carnitine. It almost reminds me a little bit of the Evogen Carnigen pre workout that features tons and tons of carnitine. I think the caffeine is nicely dosed at 250 mg, and I’m excited to see what the second scoop is going to do for me later today. The other really nice thing about this preworkout is how it’s a non-proprietary blend so you can see how much of each individual ingredient is listed. So the formula checks out. The performance checks out. The taste is on point. What else…Oh yes! The packaging!
Muscleology Sledgehammer Packaging Grade: 8.8
The packaging of this pre workout is pretty good as well. It’s not like, crazy good. It’s not Unico good. It’s not Cellucor good. But it’s pretty good looking. I think they black jar that they use is of high quality. It doesn’t seem like something that would or should matter at all- but trust me this jar is solid and heavy and high quality. The graphics are not totally imaginative, but they do a good job of mixing contrasts to guide your attention where it should be guided to- which is to the product name ‘Sledgehammer’, and to the words ‘pre workout concentrate’. The flavor icons are not strikingly pretty to look at, but they also do a fine job of conveying the right information neeeded at the time. I think the orange foil accents are what make this pre workout really stand out graphically. The orange is a strong color. A bold color. And it also matches the fruit punch flavor. I really like it.
