With the huge popularity of my Shredz for Her Fat Burner Reviews, I decided to check out some of their other products and give them a try. In today’s review I’m going to tell you all about the Shredz Thermogenic Protein for Women. I’ll tell you about the taste, which flavor I think is best, and also how it mixes. I’ll then discuss the ingredients and supplement facts to show you what exactly is in this protein supplement. I’ll have some fun going over the label and packaging design, and as with all my reviews I’ll finish with an assessment of the overall value of the product. I hope this in-depth analysis of the Shredz protein helps you decide if it is right for you!

With 2015 in full swing now, and with the OFFIFICAL BPW pre workout and fat burner rankings starting to take shape, it is with great pleasure that I’m announcing that in 2015 we will be putting together an annual best protein powder for women top ten. I know that protein supplements are a huge part of everyone’s supplementation regimen- and I’m more than happy to help guide you through a highly saturated landscape that is the protein powder market.

Which brings me to today’s product: Shredz Thermogenic Protein Powder for Women. Now. Shredz also has a non-female specific protein simply called Shredz Protein Performance Blend. This product is a standard whey and milk blend, and comes in two flavors as far as I can tell: Cinnamon Bun and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Not a bad menu if you ask me! The women’s version is a little bit of an unconventional formula as you’ll see later in the review when I talk about the formula and ingredients. Actually now that I do some more research- I can’t even seem to find the Thermogenic Women’s Protein on the Shredz website anymore. This makes me wonder if they have stopped making it! This is interesting in itself and makes you wonder the reasoning behind it. Hm Just a second. Aha! The power of the live chat. I asked customer support what the reason for the product being absent from the site was- and behold the answer:Me Chatting with the Super Helpful Shredz Team

It seems that this product is sold out and that they’ve had to make more! This makes me that much more excited to dig into my tub and see what all the hype is about. So here we go. Shredz Thermogenic Women’s Protein- How does it taste?

Shredz Taste Grade: 8.8

Shredz protein almost broke into the ‘A’ range from Ms. Lewis, but didn’t quite make it. After all, I am coming off two tubs of Body Nutrition Trutein. I’m that much harder to please after that. O by the way- it’s officially Shamrock Shake season again over at Body Nutrition. If you’ve never tried it before. You. Need. To. Seriously get your hands on some of that because it’s one of the best tasting protein shakes of all time. Ok getting back to Shredz. So I ordered the Blueberry Muffin flavor from LuckyVitamin (they’ve got dang good prices btw), and it was promptly shipped to me after I added in a few goodies to reach the free shipping quota at $49. I ended up getting some BCAA and ZMA to help me sleep better. My Shredz protein arrived in all it’s hot pink glory (surprise surprise), and I proceeded the ‘Shred’ the seals and crack it open. (See what I did there? :P)

This protein powder immediately sent up small tendrils of sweet-smelling protein smoke that pleased my palette in every way. I knew right then and there that this stuff HAD to be mixed with milk. And whole milk at that. Who has blueberry muffin anything with water, right? Exactly. I got out the milk and proceeded to put a scoop and a half into the blender with about a cup and a half of whole milk. I blended it up nice and thick with my magic bullet and poured it into a pint glass. The shake actually mixed sort of tannish-blueish- the same way I would imagine a real blueberry muffin would if you blended it into milk. The shake was mixed very evenly and completely with no clumping. Pretty much nothing is going to be clumpy after my Magic Bullet is done with it, but, hey. Just throwing it out there.

My first sip was delicious. The immediate taste is of a real corn muffin. It’s sweat and savory. Then the blueberry taste comes in strong. And last but not least you do get a sort of odd aftertaste. I kept sipping. Same results. The immediate flavor profile is absolutely delectable. Its so on point that if it weren’t for the odd aftertaste- we might be talking about the best tasting protein powder on the market. Of course the thing with taste is- that it’s subjective. So you might try it and not get the aftertaste. It could also be that I got an odd batch. Who knows. But that’s the low-down on the taste. I might have to sample some of the other flavors when they are available because I’m curious to find out if they are the same as this, or better, or worse. So Shredz tastes fantastic. But what exactly is in this protein supplement? And is there anything that will jump out as the culprit behind that dreadful aftertaste?

Shredz Protein Formula Grade: 9.0

I’m giving the Shredz formula an ‘A’ because it’s a nicely thought out formula. When I first read the product title I’ll admit I sort of rolled my eyes. What’s the point of making a thermogenic protein powder. Isn’t that the answer to a question nobody asked? But then I tried it. And I tasted how good it was. And more importantly, I really loved the way I felt afterwards. I felt both completely satiated and oddly energized for having just consumed something that tasted like a pure milkshake. And here’s why: The thermogenic ingredients, or those that help ramp up metabolism and fat burning, contribute in a huge way to the way you feel post-consumption. It’s really unusual to ‘feel’ anything from a protein shake- but with this one you really do, and it’s a terrific feeling of fullness and energy. Here are the major ingredients in Shredz Protein:

  • Whey Protein: No surprises here. Whey is the most popular and fastest digesting protein so I’m glad it is the feature ingredient. The only thing to worry about is if you are allergic to dairy- this is certainly not for you.
  • Milk Protein Isolate: A slower digesting protein consisting of both the whey and casein components of the total milk protein. This extends the time window during which your body will digest and use the amino acids for muscle repair.
  • Coconut Powder: This is a pretty cool add-in to the formula, and really sets it apart. This is WHOLE coconut powder. Not just the water. Not just the milk. Not just the meat. The whole shebang. That means you are going to get some calories for sure (although apparently not too too much of this is in each serving because the total calorie count is still quite modest at 115 kcal/serving). But it’s still a thoughtful add-in. You will get some healthy fats and MCTs from this.
  • Nutrim: This is Oat Fiber Powder- definitely an interesting way to derive some dietary fiber in the product.
  • Grape Seed Extract: An antioxidant rich in bio-flavanoids that is used to improve skin health and fight free radicals. I like this ingredient and have had nice results with is as a standalone way to improve my skin quality.
  • Green Tea & Green Coffee Extract: These two are the engine of the ‘thermogenic’ aspect of this product, and they work nicely in tandem. The verdict is still kind of unclear on GCB and if it really is the ‘miracle’ fat burner that everyone thought it was (courtesy of the good Doctor Oz), but I still think it has thermogenic qualities. Green Tea is the king of natural thermogenics that also has a million other benefits. I’m glad they are both in here ALTHOUGH I have a suspicion that Green Coffee Bean may be the source of the bitter aftertaste that I noticed.

Shredz Protein Packaging Grade: 7.9

Moving into something a little more light-hearted, and always entertaining for my readers I’m sure. The good old packaging review. Shredz, for everything that they’ve done well as a company and with this protein, definitely missed on the packaging. Packaging is one of the few times where supplement companies can go way outside the box and differentiate themselves. Look at products like Cellucor Super HD and CLK and C4. These are products that scream at you from the shelf. Sigh. Yes, Shredz. I know hot pink is a loud color that screams ‘women’s’. But you know what? So does Fitmiss. So does XP2. So does Bodyfit. So does Adrenherlyn. So does Chick Pump. So does EVERY supplement company that puts out a women’s line of supplements. You know you can’t get anything better than a C+ on the BPW with a hot pink package. No matter how bold your typeface is. Are there positives in this design? Sure. The blueberry muffin graphic, for one, is quite appealing and echoes the superior taste of this protein. The overall metallic finish on the label is also kinda nice- but not nice enough to overcome the fact that it’s just too generic for me.

Shredz Protein Value and Overall Score: 9.0

Shredz Thermogenic Protein gets an ‘A’ from me for a few key reasons. First of which is that at less than a dollar per serving- this is one of the few times you are going to find a highly effective, great-tasting protein for a more than reasonable price. You can find proteins of this caliber for $2-3 dollars per serving. Easy. When you consider how good this product tastes, how solid and unique the ingredient profile is, and how good of an overall value it is- I think you’ll see why Shredz is a very real competitor in this year’s best protein supplement awards 2015.
