Hello and welcome to my Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Review. In this review, we’re going to go over all the fun stuff that you can possibly go over with a pre workout supplement. We’re going to discuss the effects and performance gain that you get when you take MyPre. I know, I’m talking about it like it’s a car. Lol. Honestly pre workouts are more important than cars, right? I think so. We’re going to talk about what it feels like to take this pre workout and then do a really, really boring, softcore workout. Because that’s all I’ve been able to do in the advent of my recent injuries. (Don’t worry we’ll talk plenty about my boring about my injuries). After we discuss the performance and discover if MyProtein’s pre workout actually does anything, we will go into the formula review section. I’ll bet you want to know exactly what is in this pre workout, and especially want to know if it’s safe. I’ll be telling you. I’ll also tell you what my thoughts are on improving the formula, so be ready for that. As with all my reviews, we’ll talk plenty about the packaging grade too. I love packaging more than I like the product itself, whoops did I say that out loud? Lol. There’s a little teaser for you I guess. So without giving away all my findings on Myprotein pre workout, let’s jump into the meat of the Mypre review.
Myprotein is an interesting company. I started off doing an awesome review on their Impact Whey Protein, which you can read here. As you know from reading that review, my first experience with Myprotein was a very positive one. I found the product to have wonderful taste, a totally solid ingredient profile, and then also be very aesthetically pleasing from a packaging standpoint.
Needless to say, I was pretty pumped to get my hands on the Mypre pre workout and see if it could live up to the same standard of performance as the Impact Whey. Sometimes companies will excel with one type of product and not the other, and I won’t lie, I was sort of expecting the findings that I did come to- and that was based on the hypothesis that the Mypre pre workout would not be as quality of a product as the Impact Whey Protein. I know, poorly worded sentenece, Allie. Get your stuff together. Ok. I will. Shutup it’s Friday, I’m over this isht. Whoa. Calm down. Lol. Whatsup split personalities! Bahha. Ok. I’ll grow up. Let’s talk about Mypre and if this pre workout drink actually workss:
Does Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Work?
I’m assigning a performance grade of 8.0 to this pre workout, because I didn’t have that phenomenal of a workout on it. As you read in the introduction, I’ve had some pretty horrible workouts lately. And that’s because I just have not been able to do the same workouts that I am used to doing- which are high volume, resistance-style training workouts. I also like to do alot of high-impact intervals. None of the above has been possible with my knees feeling the way that they do. As you know if you’re a regular reader, my knees have been jacked up ever since a particularly aggressive set of squats that I did about three months ago (holy crap, it’s been THAT long ago). Ugh. But yeah ever since then I basically tried to do all my same workouts that I usually do. Bad idea. My knees have, if anything, gotten even worse. So now I’ve banished myself to the boring-est of the boring low-impact workouts. Lots of isometric holds, and stuff like that. But you know I took Mypre anyways. I won’t let MY injuries stop me from getting YOU your beloved FLA pre workout review!
So how did the product make me feel? Well, for one, it made me feel energy almost right off the bat. I felt caffeinated and energized and full of life. I felt maybe a little bit on edge even, which is rare for me. I usually have a super high tolerance for the stimulants in these products, but Mypre really did fire me up. But then something very strange happened. I started to get really focused, and was really ready for my workout. And then all of a sudden I got INCREDIBLY tired. Like. I felt like I could’ve fallen asleep right there in my car as I was getting to the gym. I had an OK workout once my blood got moving, although I did get a really bad bloated-look from the creatine. But that brings us to the formula grade- why did i get these weird results?
What is In MyProtein My Pre Pre Workout?
The Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Formula Grade is 7.8. I’m going to give Mypre an average, to below-average grade of 7.8 on the pre workout formula review section because there are a few things I don’t really like about it. I think this pre workout is just not even that close to clawing it’s way into the B-range. Which is weird for a non-proprietary blend to not score higher on the formula. Eh. Well, I guess I am a little bit of a pre workout snob, so maybe it’s not all that surprising. But let me show you the main ingredients and then we’ll analyze further:
- Citrulline DL-Malate
- Beta-Alanine
- L-Arginine AKG
- Agmatine Sulfate
- Betaine Anhydrous
- Caffeine
- Creatine HCI
- Creatine Monohydrate
- Creatine Ethyle Ester HCI
- BCAA 2:1:1
- L-Histidine
- L-Lysine
- L-Methionine
- L-Phenylalanine
- L-Threonine
- L-Tryptophan
- L-Arginine
- Vitamin B1
- Vitamin B12
- Niacin
- D-Aspartic Acid
- Choline Bitartrate
- Chromium
- Calcium
- Artificial Flavors
- Artificial Sweeteners
WOW. So that’s a list and a half, isn’t it? Yeah. It really is. It’s one of the largest blends that I’ve seen in a very long time. The scoop is almost the size of the Pre Kaged scoop, and the Supplement Facts says you can even take TWO scoops of this stuff, which would be THIRTY-TWO grams of pre workout. I mean. That’s just insane. That’s like a large protein shake in terms of powder. But looking at the ingredients themselves- the things that I personally don’t like, as a woman, are the gobs of creatine (three different kinds) in here, which is why I felt so bloated after. I also don’t like that there’s D-Aspartic Acid in here, which is a testosterone booster that also gives me a pretty bad headache. Speaking of headaches, I get headaches bad from Agmatine Sulfate. So I probably will not be taking this pre workout very often, unfortunately. But. Does it at least taste good?
Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Flavor Grade: 8.8
If there is a strong aspect to this pre workout, I think it has to be the flavor. Myprotein seems to have some pretty serious flavor wizards behind the scenes making sure all of the Myprotein products are on point in terms of taste. I had the chance to try and additional flavor of Mypre even though I didn’t drink the whole thing (only wanted the one workout with it since I wasn’t crazy about the results). The two flavors that I tried are listed below, along with my thoughts on each of them.
Sour Raspberry: This is the best flavor of Myprotein Mypre. The taste is certainly tangy, and actually reminds me alot of the sour Warhead candy that we used to eat in order to run our parents dental bills up through the roof. I don’t know if this one tastes as much like raspberry as it does like a really tart cherry, or black cherry even. I think I would’ve named this flavor Sour Black Cherry instead of Sour Raspberry. I also think that ironically this flavor tastes more like cherry than the actual cherry limeade. Speaking of which…
Cherry Limeade: This flavor of Mypre pre workout is not nearly as good as the sour raspberry in my opinion. It’s interesting how all the pre workout companies have started copying Pre Jym and making a cherry limeade flavored pre workout. This cherry lime is not anywhere CLOSE to being as good as the Pre Jym’s interpretation, or even Cellucor’s C4 Ripped version. This flavor has gone almost in the ‘cola’ direction on taste. To me, this flavor of Mypre tastes just like a flat soda pop. Since I’ve never been a big soda fan to begin with, you can imagine a flat, gritty version of a bad soda pop does not appeal to me. I haven’t tried the other four flavors of Myprotein Mypre, but I would go out on a limb and see that this flavor might actually be the worst of the lot.
Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Packaging Grade: 8.8
I’ll give Myprotein a good score on packaging. As with taste, it is evident to me that Myprotein is heavily committed to, if nothing else, coming up with a handsomely-packaged, great-tasting product; be it protein or pre workout. I wasn’t in love with how this product performed, but again, as a woman, I think there were things that really made it a no-go for me. But for guys, this pre workout might be a homerun. Because guys love getting headaches (probably too dumb to notice), and they also love looking ‘swole’, which, I do NOT.
But in terms of the aesthetics of this supplement- there is actually a lot to appreciate and take in. As with Impact Whey, this product uses the light blue top color block, and then resolves to a dark gray beneath. A silver band separates the two vertically. The Myprotein logo is this time arranged at the TOP instead of along the side as it was on the protein. The ‘MYPRE’ product title is very clearly plastered across the front face of this pre workout, in big, bold, capital letters. I like how they made it one word with no break between ‘MY’ and ‘PRE’ but DID make them different colors so that the brain automatically will digest them both separately AND as one, at once. Lol. Read that again. It may not have made a ton of sense initially. The other thing I guess I do like about this label is the super-ripped six (eight?)-pack guy on the lower left of the product. I mean. He’s hot. Lol. Overall this is a really good looking product label. Great job once again in the looks department, Myprotein.
Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Review Summary:
- Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Performance Grade: 7.8
- Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Formula Grade is 7.8
- Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Flavor Grade: 8.3
- Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Packaging Grade: 8.8
- Myprotein MyPre Pre Workout Value Score: 8.7
There are quite a few things TO like about MY PRE pre workout. The packaging is marvelous. The taste is fantastic. The formula is big and comprehensive, but it does include some things that isolate it from women. It also doesn’t perform QUITE the way you would expect from having such a big fancy formula. But at the price point of under a dollar per serving- it’s hard to argue against at least giving it a shot. If there’s one advantage that Myprotein will always have over the competition, it is the ability to be able to offer great value.*
